Jack Osbourne

Jack Osbourne was suicidal when he was admitted to rehab, Ozzy’s troubled son has said.

Speaking in a frank and revealing interview, his first since his spell in detox, Jack Osbourne has described how he became addicted to opiate-based painkillers and booze before he decided he needed help.

“For a while I was suicidal and I tried to kill myself”, he said. “I took a bottle of pills. I’d been in Europe and I had a lot of absinthe and I was just drinking and drinking, trying to, you know, just shut my body down. There’s a lot of things that were going on. I’d run out of OxyContin, I was doing a lot of Dilaudid. Dilaudid is like a millimetre down from OxyContin. I was doing a lot of those, and life just got super stressful for me, and I just sat in a hotel room thinking, ‘I want it to end, I want it to end”.

Jack Osbourne was admitted to Las Encinas Hospital in Pasadena in mid-April. At the time, it was claimed he was being treated solely for alcohol and drug problems.

During his interview with MTV, Jack also admitted that he drank and smoked dope every day for two years before his breakdown. He also claimed that he became addicted to “legal heroin” OxyContin.

“I compare it to this: it’s like when you’re sitting on an airplane and you’ve just taken off and they come around with those hot towels. You rub your hands with it, it’s all warm and cozy, and then before you know it’s cold”, he said. “You know, it was great for a while but, you know, it just gets cold, and that’s the way it was”.

Jack Osbourne has said he has had to lose most of his old drug-taking friends and start again since leaving rehab. He said being clean has drawn him close to his father as he now understands the demons Ozzy fights to remain sober.

Last week, in the light of his son’s admission, Ozzy said he believed soft drugs led to hard drugs.

“I used to think they should legalise pot, but you know what? They should ban the lot”, Ozzy said. “One thing leads to another. Coffee leads to Red Bull, Red Bull leads to crank (amphetamines)…”

“When I found out the full depth of him getting into OxyContin, i was shocked and stunned”, he added. “It’s not just America. It’s not just California. It’s not just Beverly Hills. It’s not just downtown New York. It’s not just London. It’s all over the world”.
